Mary Louise Peacock Birdwell

October 8, 1934 — December 26, 2017

Mary Louise Peacock Birdwell, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on December 26, 2017, surrounded by her family, after a lengthy battle with dementia. Louise was born on October 8, 1934, the daughter of William and Bessie Durr Peacock. Louise was a faithful member of Bethel Congregational Methodist Church and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mother read the Bible to her family daily followed by prayers with Daddy. She used her talents to serve meals to shut-ins and to those who were ill. She served meals to many missionaries and supported them faithfully. Many times she was asked if she would share her recipes, and most times she would leave out what she called her secret ingredient. Her spare time was spent canning vegetables from the garden. She also loved riding her lawn mower and kept a beautiful yard. At times it was hard to get her off that riding mower. Her most favorite time was in the evenings when she would watch the cardinals play at the feeders and the deer crossing the driveway in front of her home. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bessie Durr Peacock; brothers, “Snapper”, Paul Ray, Jerry, and Bill Peacock; sisters, Pat Bridges and Bet Bridges. Louise is survived by her husband of 64 years, Vernon Birdwell of Marthaville; daughters, Judy Mitts of Bossier City, Marsha Nola and husband Jim of Monroe, Amy Vercher and husband John of Marthaville, Rita Birdwell of Marthaville; grandchildren, Crystal Cheney and husband Doug, Michael Mitts and wife Amanda, Bambi Nola, Kyle Nola, J.J. Vercher, Naomi “Sister” Vercher; sisters, Barbara, Frisk, Glenda Haire, Wanda Rambin; brother, Cliff Peacock; great grandchildren, Christopher Jones, Hunter Cheney, Bethany Cheney, Charlie Mitts; as well as A.J. Niette who has a special place in the hearts of this family. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Jennings Chapel in Marthaville. Visitation will be held from 9 am until service time on Thursday the 28th at Jennings Chapel. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery next to the Church. The family would like to thank Dr. Barnum for his compassionate care for our mother, Legacy Hospice for their wonderful care, and Professional Home Health for always being there. We would also like to thank three ladies who have a special place in our hearts, Casey Gaddis, Jackie Parks, and Devan Edmonds, who faithfully sat with our mother and treated her like family, and for that we are truly grateful. May God bless and keep you. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Prayer Quilt and missionary donations may be made through Bethel Congregational Church.
