Funeral service for Charles L. 'Buddy' Hampton, Sr. will be held 1 PM Saturday, January 29, 2011 in Blanchard St. Denis Chapel with Rev. Wayne Morrow and Rev. John Elliott officiating. Visitation will be Friday, January 28, 2011 from 5 PM till 9 PM and on Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 8 AM till service time in the funeral home.
Mr. Hampton, 81, of Natchitoches, La., died Thursday, January 27, 2011, in his residence in Natchitoches, La.
Buddy was born and raised on K-Mac Plantation, which was just south of Natchitoches on the Red River. On K-Mac Plantation his family grew cotton, sugarcane, and raised cattle. In the forties, due to The Great Flood, he took part in the last cattle drive crossing Cane River and down Front Street in Natchitoches. On June 1, 1948, he married the love of his life, Martha Christine Hayes. Buddy and his brothers were very active in the local rodeo circuit. He was selected Best All-Around Cowboy in Natchitoches Parrish in 1949. In later years, he was a farm owner, owned and operated Cane River Racetrack, was proprietor of Buddy's Grocery, and entered into home construction.
He was preceded in death by grandson, James Daniel Abraham, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Whitney Christine Behan; sisters, Dottie O'Quinn, Grace Clark, Georgia Goodwin, Jean LaCaze; brothers, Otis Hampton and Rick Hampton; parents, Larry Ralph Hampton and Susan Izora Patch Hampton
He is survived by his wife Christine Hayes Hampton of Natchitoches, La.; one daughter, Dianne Hampton Abraham and husband James of Cary, N.C.; two sons, Charles Hampton, Jr. and wife Carol of Natchitoches, La. and Todd Hampton and wife Christina of Natchitoches, La.; grandchildren, Jennifer Hampton Behan and husband Phillip, Elizabeth Hampton Johnston and husband Travis, Sandra Hampton Bergeron and husband Mark, Danny Abraham and wife Sheri, Chad Abraham and wife Tiffany, Brad Abraham and wife Sabrina, Christopher Hampton, and Brooklyn Hampton; great grandchildren, Ariel McDonald, Savannah Behan, Phillip Michael Behan, Chase Johnston, Caleb Johnston, Cameron Bergeron, Crystal Bergeron, Caroline Bergeron, Addison Abraham, Hudson Abraham, Tucker Abraham, Kayla Abraham and Natalie Abraham; brother, Johnny R. Hampton and wife Ann of Palestine, Tx.; sisters-in-law, Frances Hargis Davis of Shreveport, LA and Ruth James Hampton of Baton Rouge, LA
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Hatley, Kelly Gray, Allen Solomon, Dr. Ray Hargis, Benny Buzbee, Jonathan Rhodes, Dean Abraham, Tommy Hayes, and Thomas 'Hoggie' Desadier.
