The family of Mrs. June Walmsley Henry invites friends to remember her life from 11 am until 1 pm on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. A private interment for the immediate family will follow the visitation.
Mrs. Henry passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 20, 1926 to the late George and Mena Burke Walmsley in Natchitoches, LA. Mama June, as known by all close to her, was a lifelong resident of Natchitoches. She proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. There wasn’t a time that passed that she wouldn’t rather be fishing. She will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan S. Henry; her son, Rodney E. Johansen; and three brothers; Hugh, Paul and George Walmsley.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Carol Ann Henry Kinder and her husband Bruce of Alexandria, Dana Henry of Shreveport and Joanna Henry Bernard of Natchez, MS. ; grandchildren, Shannon Ater Landry, Andrea Gibson Foust, Rebecca Bernard Breland, Daniel Ater, Leslie Gibson Tuminello, Margaret Johansen, Alexander Bolton, Sue Ann Bernard and Jennifer Bernard; her sister in law, Leola Perot Walmsley; 8 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews but especially two nieces that were very close, Georgia Ann Walmsley and Frances Kilgore and her husband Gary.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Donna Walker, The Natchitoches Cancer Treatment Center, St. Joseph’s Hospice and the entire staff at Naomi Heights for the care and compassion they showed to Mama June during her illness.
Memorials in June Henry’s name may be made to American Cancer Society.
