Orean Boswell Norsworthy, 98, of Bellwood, LA, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 21, 2007 in the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, Natchitoches, LA.
Mrs. Norsworthy was born Jan. 9, 1909 in Lotus, LA to Tom and Julia Boswell and was a lifelong resident of the Lotus/Bellwood area. She was the sole surviving member of the now inactive Shady Grove Methodist Church of Bellwood.
She was a sensitive and caring person with a love for people. She was called “Grandmother” by many, young and old alike, who were not related to her - even her best friend - only because of their love for her.
Mrs. Norsworthy was a wonderful homemaker of many years, canning and later freezing home grown foods for her family. She was a talented seamstress, making and altering clothes for many people. She and her best friend made and gave away many lovely quilts that will be cherished by family and friends for years.
She spent many years as owner/operator of the Norsworthy Grocery Store in Bellwood. At age 74 she started her 10-year working career with the U.S. Forest Service senior citizens program.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jeff Norsworthy; parents Tom and Julia Boswell; son Douglas Norsworthy; sister Laurel Scott; and brothers Burton, Chester, and Thurman Boswell.
Survivors include two sons Norman Norsworthy and wife Sue of Natchitoches, LA and Gervais Norsworthy and wife Hedy of Ruston, LA; two daughters LaVerne Franks and husband Raymond of Shreveport, LA and Gwen Cole and husband Jessie of Bellwood, LA; one sister
Vertie Shepherd of Center Point, LA; 16 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; three loving and long-time friends Evelyn Phillips, Inez Harwell, and Marie Ward; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mike Norsworthy, Greg Norsworthy, Tad Norsworthy, Jeff Norsworthy, Roger Cole, Stanley Wilson, and Justin Warner.
Visitation will be from 5 til 9 P.M. Thursday, May 24, and the funeral service at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 25, at the Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home Chapel in Natchitoches, LA, with Rev. Don Davis, former pastor of the Provencal Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Shady Grove Cemetery in Bellwood.
