Doris Faye Looper Barrios, age 87, of Natchitoches, LA, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center in Natchitoches, LA. Arrangements are being handled by Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2011. A rosary will be held at 6:30 PM during the visitation. The funeral service will be held at The Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2011, with Rev. Jacob Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clayton F Barrios of Tioga, LA; her parents, James Franklin Looper and Roberta Avery Looper of Bentley, LA; one great grandchild, Jessica Vercher; two brothers, Lisso Looper and James Armon Looper; and one sister, Nancy Allen.
She is survived by her two daughters, Muriel Spates of El Paso, TX and Sheila Shealy and husband Everett of Newberry, SC; one son, James Clayton Barrios and wife Alice of Natchitoches, LA; son-in-law; Marion Spates of Natchitoches, LA; seven grandchildren, Marion Spates, II, Ecklyn Salazar, Michael Shealy, Dorlene Hardy, Stephanie Kaufman, James Barrios, II, and Michelle Cooper; twelve great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister, Claudia Brossette of Greenwell Springs, LA; and one brother, Edwin Looper of Baton Rouge, LA.
Doris was born July 5, 1923 to James Franklin Looper and Roberta Avery Looper of Bentley, LA. She was a compassionate and generous Christian who loved life and her family. She was always cheerful, fun to be around, and a free-spirited person who always focused on others instead of herself. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Doris’s strength came from her faith and love of Christ. This faith helped her endure life’s challenges. She loved Christ, her religion and her family.
Doris was a former resident of Cane Gardens Apartments and a recent resident of the Courtyard. Doris will be missed greatly by her children and grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother and forever will live in the hearts of those who love her.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Looper, Kel Hardee, Trey Hardee, Kenny Kaufman, Regan Kaufman and Wilton Barrios, Jr. The family wishes to extend thanks to those who have provided such loving care for her over the past last years of her life.
