Robert Dayton Baker, Jr., age 76, of Natchitoches, LA., passed away Friday, June 3, 2011, at his Residence. Arrangements are being handled by Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Monday, June 6, 2011. The funeral service will be held at the Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 7, 2011 with the Rev. Steve Ciaccio officiating. Interment will be at Weaver Cemetery in Flora, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dayton Baker, Sr. and Daisy Bonnette Baker; one daughter, Annette McBride; one granddaughter, Toni McBride; two brothers, Rzell and Wilford Baker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Shirley Everage Baker of Natchitoches, LA; seven sons; Tim Baker of New Orleans, LA., Terry Baker and wife Julie of Murphy, N.C., Sam Baker and wife Kim of Flora, LA., Ronald Baker and wife Shanna of Natchitoches, LA., Bruce Baker of Flora, LA., Robbie Baker and wife Jessica of Robeline, LA., and Rodney Baker of Powhatan, LA.; five daughters; LaDean Sorgee and husband Roland of Longview, TX., Margie Townsend and husband Ronnie of Lake Jackson, TX., Cindy Kelley and husband Pat of Angleton, TX., Rhonda Womack and husband Jim of Angleton, TX., and Jenni Vascocu and husband Glenn of Flora, LA.; one sister; Sarah Royer of Coushatta, LA; twenty seven grandchildren; Mark Sorgee, Jason Sorgee, Brock McBride, Hunter Townsend, Dylan Townsend, Ryan Kelley, Justin Kelley, Erin Hardee, Toni Dockens, Madison Dockens, Tucker Vascocu, Chloe Vascocu, Cameron Nix, Whitney King, Lakyn Baker, Gage Baker, Cole Baker, Maygan Baker, Ashton Baker, Whitney Baker, Skylar Baker, Noah Baker, Abbie Baker, Gracie Baker, Dalton Baker, Colby Kilgore, and Chase Townsend; five great grandchildren; Kaleb Sorgee, Jacob Sorgee, Brynn McBride, Sydney McBride, and Tye McBride.
Robert was a native of Fairview Alpha, LA. He worked many years for Bobby L. McElwee Pipeline Construction Company, as a foreman, welder and heavy equipment operator. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, listening to gospel music, playing his guitar, fishing, hunting, and his lawnmower. He was a member of Victory Assembly of God Church in Natchitoches. He served as a board member and grounds keeper and did that with great pride.
His sons will be the active pallbearers; Tim,Terry, Sam, Ronald, Bruce, Robbie and Rodney Baker. His grandsons will be the honorary pallbearers; Brock McBride, Jason Sorgee, Mark Sorgee, Hunter Townsend, Dylan Townsend, Ryan Kelley, Justin Kelley, Cole Baker, Noah Baker, Dalton Baker, Tucker Vascocu, Gage Baker, Colby Kilgore and Chase Townsend.
The family would like to thank Dr. Olatinwa, Dr. Harris, Dr. Pere’, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center Staff especially the Intensive Care Unit, the staff at Professional Home Health, the staff Hope Hospice and his nurse at home Pam Clement R.N.
