Funeral services for Vernice Megason McFerren, 76, of Marthaville will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, July 30, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Marthaville with Rev. Benjie Colvin officiating. Interment will follow at Marthaville Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am on Saturday, July 30, until service time at First Baptist Church of Marthaville.
Mrs. McFerren passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Garden Court Rehab in Bossier City, Louisiana. She was born October 30, 1934 in Robeline, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Norman D. McFerren; her parents, G. A. and Bessie Megason; and brothers, Leland Megason and Leonard Megason.
She was a graduate of Northwestern State University and retired from Natchitoches Parish School Board with 25 years of service as a teacher. She was a member of Marthaville First Baptist Church and Natchitoches Chapter #13 Order of the Eastern Star, where she was currently serving as Grand Representative in Louisiana.
Survivors include daughters, Teresa Parish and her husband David of Marthaville and Lisa LaRosee of Bossier City; son David McFerren and his wife Mary of Bossier City; grandchildren, Kathryn Parish Gentry and her husband, David, Jonathan Parish, Emily Anne LaRosee, Corinne McFerren and Jake McFerren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Keith Birdwell, Chris Daniels, Charles Davis, Danny Hall, Ted Singletary and Jody Woodard.
The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Kamlesh Jani, Dr. Anil Veluvolu, nurses and staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont Health Center, and nurses and staff of Garden Court Rehab for their professional and caring service.
