Funeral Services for Edward Hernandez, Jr. will be held on Friday, the 23rd of September 2011 at 10 A.M. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Natchitoches with Father Jason Gootee serving as the celebrant. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Thursday, the 22nd of September 2011 from 5 P.M. until 9 P.M at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 P.M. A committal service will follow the funeral services in Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches.
Mr. Edward Hernandez, Jr., age 94, passed away on Wednesday, the 21st of September 2011 at the Grace Home in Shreveport. He was the last of nine children of Edward and Euphemia Hernandez of Cloutierville. Mr. Hernandez was a union carpenter/contractor in the Natchitoches area for over fifty years, he taught carpentry at Cloutierville High School for the Natchitoches Trade School, and was a member Moose Lodge and a long time parishioner of Holy Cross Church.
He is survived by four children: Charles and his wife Shirley of Seneca, SC, Ralph and his wife Jean of Flora, his daughter Lynda of Natchitoches, and Jerry and his wife Donna of Natchitoches. He had five grandchildren: Tony Hernandez and his wife Lisa of Conway, SC, Bruce Hernandez and his wife Peggy, Becky Phillips and her husband Jason, Jennifer Michelle of Lake Charles, and Kimberly Melder and her husband James of Natchitoches. He had seven great grandchildren: Tanner Hernandez, Duncan Hernandez, Austin and Sammie Phillips, Lindsay Michelle, Mason and Madelyn Melder. He had many nieces and nephews.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Bruce Hernandez, Tanner Hernandez, Ted Hernandez, Raymond Hernandez, Lynn McCain, Robert Pressenbach, Crit Miller and James Melder.
Honorary Pallbearers Mike McCain, Ronald Roy, Donald and Kenneth Hernandez, his great grandchildren: Sammy and Austin Phillips, Mason Melder and Duncan Hernandez.
In lieu of floral contributions, donations may be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church building fund.
