A service to remember the life of Myrtle Mathews will be 3 pm Sunday, September 25, 2011 in the chapel of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home with Rev. Lindle Stewart officiating and Terry Etheridge assisting. Grady Snider will provide music tributes. Interment will follow at Strange Cemetery in Readhimer, LA. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until 3 pm on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home.
Ms. Mathews was born May 29, 1919 in Readhimer, LA to the late Joseph Marion Regions and the late Ethel Simmons Regions. She resided in Readhimer from birth until 2009, when she moved to Natchitoches with Benny and Shirley Dobson. At the time of her death, she was a resident of the Courtyard of Natchitoches. She was 92 years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Leon Brimer and John Mathews; one son, Joe Brimer; two brothers, Mace Regions and William Regions; and a sister, Alma Regions Dobson.
Survivors include two nephews and wives: Benny and Shirley Dobson of Natchitoches and Billy and Mariea Regions of Campti; two nieces and husbands; Marjorie and Bill McInnis of Walker, WV and Mary and David Kelley of Tullahoma, TN; a granddaughter, Rebecca Brimer Jones; and two great grandchildren.
Ms. Myrt, as she was known, was a dedicated correspondent for the Natchitoches Times for twenty-eight years.
She was an active member of the Briarwood Baptist Church. She was a devout Christian, truly loving her God, family and friends. Her family and friends were always welcome to drop by anytime for cake and coffee and her famous teacakes.
Pallbearers will be David Dobson of Chestnut, Mike Land of Campti, Billy Regions of Campti, Marc Keedy of Natchitoches, Douglas Madden of Readhimer and Henry (Butch) Weaver of Readhimer.
The family would like to thank her many friends for their love and support. Special thanks to Carolyn LaCour and Evelyn LaCour for their special care and love during her extended illness. Many thanks to the Courtyard of Natchitoches, Hospice of Natchitoches, Harmony Home Health and Dr. Otis Barnum and Susan Massia for their long term care.
