James "Jim" Sarpy

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. James “Jim” Sarpy will be 10:30 am Thursday, October 27, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle, LA with Reverend Jacob Thomas officiating. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Catholic Church Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 8 am until 9:45 am at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home on Thursday, October 27, 2011. Mr. Sarpy, 85 years of age, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011. He was born December 6, 1925 to the late Jordan Sarpy and the late Celine (LaBome) Sarpy in Melrose, LA. He worked for 31 years on a local farm and then for 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Transportation before retiring. Mr. Sarpy was active with the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Lydia Sarpy Rachal; his siblings, Jordan Sarpy, Jr., Clemo Sarpy, Odile Sarpy Roque, Victorine Sarpy Sarpy, Betty Sarpy Metoyer, Celine Sarpy Coutee, John Sarpy, and Octave Sarpy. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Josephine (Metoyer) Sarpy; his children, James Sarpy, Jr. and his wife Karen, Shirley Sarpy Metoyer and her husband Vilfried, Jr., and Leonard P. Sarpy; his grandchildren, Megan Sarpy, Katie Sarpy, Vilfried Metoyer, III, Valeria Metoyer, Donald Rachal, Jr., Jessica Rachal, Crystal Rachal, Cole Sarpy, Mikaela Sarpy and Courtney Sarpy; his great grandchildren, Jonathan Messenger, Aaliyah Rachal, Donald Rachal, III, Kambria Payton and Khalis Hicks; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
