Shirley Matthews, 76 years of age, passed away October 28, 2011. Shirley was born May 20, 1935 to the late Robert Conley Caldwell and Iva Hardin Caldwell in Many, LA. Shirley was a brave and courageous mother. In 1974 she fell down a flight of stairs at her home and had to have two back surgeries as a result. It caused her to have migrane headaches throughout most of her life. During all of this, she did the best she could to not let it affect her livelihood. She was still able to raise a son and daughter to grow up with the correct family and moral values, both of whom she was very proud of. Later in 1993, she would suffer a stroke, but would still be a fighter; even though she lost the use of one arm, the partial loss of use in one leg, foot, and partial speech. Even though she spent the last ten years of her life in a nursing facility, she was still able to make friends and enjoy her life to the fullest. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by one son,Craig Stephen Moran and wife Camille, Natchitoches, LA; one daughter, Kathy Lanell Deloney and husband Mark of Natchitoches, LA; one step-son, Harold Keith Matthews and wife Denise of Ruston, LA; one step-daughter, Lisa Matthews Rogers of Shreveport, LA; nine grandchildren, Haley Colvin, Hillary Severin, Holley Deloney, Hannah Deloney, Tori Matthews, Carolyn Matthews, Jeferson Matthews, Tyler Rogers, Chase Rogers; four great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lanell Lawrence of Quinlan, TX; two nephews, Mark Newman and David Sloan; and one niece, Kelli Newman Davis.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Bennie Ray Moran and Harold Dan Matthews; and her parents Iva Olivia Hardin Caldwell and Robert Conley Caldwell.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Jason Colvin, Nigel Severin, Blake Guillory, Jerry Lawrence, and Mark Deloney.
