Funeral service for Dawson Bailey Thaxton will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, November 11, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Natchitoches, LA with Rev. Doug De Graffenreid and Rev. Dr. Kevin McKee officiating. Interment will follow at American Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on November 10, 2011 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA. Dawson Thaxton, 97 years of age, passed away at his home in Natchitoches, November 8, 2011. Dawson was born October 9, 1914 to the late Calvin Thaxton and Agnes Doiron Thaxton in Hornbeck, LA. Bailey was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a Master Mason for over 60 years at the Phoenix Lodge No. 38 as well as a member of the El Karubah Temple in Lousiana. He worked extensively with the children at the Shriners Childrens Hospital. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He had many accomplishments in his life, was a very helpful and caring man, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 78 years, Eloise Thaxton of Natchitoches, LA; his daughter, B J Thaxton McKee and husband Larry A. of Baton Rouge, LA; two grandchildren, Tracey McKee of Baton Rouge, LA and Rev. Dr. Kevin McKee and wife, Mary Hook McKee of Baton Rouge, LA; four great grandchildren, Monica, Stewart, Joanna, and Lincoln; five sisters, Eva, Wilma, Patsy, Wanda, Edith; and one brother, Fred. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin Thaxton and Agnes Doiron Thaxton; and four brothers, Bernice, Elmer, Coolidge, and Harvey.
