Ruth Bass, 87 of Caddo Mills, TX (formerly of Spanish Lake, LA) passed away on November 30, 2011, at Hunt Regional Hospital in Greenville, TX. She was born June 16, 1924, to the late Buddy Bustamento and the late Bessie Scothorn Bustamento. Mrs Bass was a life long member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Spanish Lake and also a member of the Adai-Caddo tribe of Louisiana. She worked for many years at Swift Packing Company in Shreveport, LA, ultimately retiring from Sunbeam Corporation in Coushatta, LA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Spanish Lake with Father Antony Aelavanthara and Rev. Howard Strickland officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Monday during the visitation at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home Chapel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Bass; and a niece, Mary Sullivan.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Strickland and her husband Howard, and Sharlett Currier and her husband Greg; one son, Gene Roberts and his wife Debra; she was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Mary Dillman, Gregory Currier, Angela Taylor, Edwin Eugene Roberts II, and Derrick Strickland; 9 great grandchildren, Audrey, Emily, Nathan, Addison, Mitchell, Jason, Thomas, Emagin and Justin; one sister, Lou Ann Sullivan and her husband Frank; two nieces, Lyn Sullivan and Jane Pratt; one great nephew, Reed Pratt; as well as numerous cousins and friends.
Honoring her as pallbearers will be Paul Pratt, Reed Pratt, Gregory Carrizal, Don Flores, Jeffery Flores, Chief Rufus Davis, and Charles Durr.
