A service to celebrate the life of Louise “Jo” Carroll will be 10 am Saturday, December 17, 2011 at The First United Methodist Church of Natchitoches with Reverend Ellis Newman and Senator Gerald Long officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery, Natchitoches, LA. The family will receive friends from 5pm until 9pm on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches.
Mrs. Carroll, 90 years of age, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in Natchitoches. She was born April 6, 1921 to the late Horace Felton Hicks and the late Mary Anne (Barton) Hicks in Groveton, Texas. She graduated from Winnfield High School in which one of her proudest achievements was being a part of the 1939 Girls State Basketball Championship team her senior year. She worked for many years as an executive secretary at Northwestern State University. She was a long time member at the First United Methodist Church of Natchitoches as well as being a member of The Order of The Eastern Star, Natchitoches Chapter.
She leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Billie Jean Oakes; a son, Kenneth Carroll, a daughter, Margaret Anne Carroll; grandchildren, Wynne Taylor and his wife Susanne, Evan Taylor, Jay Carroll and his wife Eda, Samuel A. “Trey” Taylor III, Scott Carroll and his wife Heather, and Christie Lindsay ; her great grandchildren, Ava Riley Carroll, Elizabeth Carroll, David Carroll, Anna Sophia Taylor, Collin Wilkison and Amanda Wilkison; ; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include: her son, Kenneth Carroll; her grandsons, Jay Carroll, Scott Carroll, Wynne Taylor, Evan Taylor and Samuel A. Taylor III.
