Patsy Ann Blanchard

July 18, 1946 — December 28, 2011

Patsy Ann Rogers Blanchard, 65 years of age of Natchitoches. Patsy passed away peacefully in her home in Bermuda on December 28, 2011. Patsy was born and raised in Rosepine, LA on July 18, 1946. She has been a resident of Natchitoches since moving here to attend Northwestern State University where she obtained a BA degree. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, she served 21 years as a deputy for the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, and for the past 5 years as a minute clerk in the 10th Judicial District Court. Patsy has been a faithful member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Melrose, LA, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She was preceded in death by her parents Shirley Yocum and Earl Rogers; her Grandfather O.E. Smith; and her aunt and uncle, Margaruite and Chester Smith, all of Rosepine LA. She was the beloved wife of Carey H. Blanchard III, of Natchitoches, LA, for almost 44 years. Left to cherish her memory are her husband; her brother George Rogers and his wife Loreen of DeRidder, LA; sister Vicky Woods and her husband Duane of Rosepine, LA and brother Andy Yocum of Natchitoches, LA; her four children: son Carey H. Blanchard IV and his wife Susan of Albuquerque, NM, son James Blanchard of Beatrice, NE, daughter Alice Martin and her husband Lake of Natchitoches, LA and daughter Sarah Blanchard of Natchitoches, LA; her 10 grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary and Adam Blanchard; Kiefer McBride, Mariah Kenley, Brendan and Lynn Blanchard; Laina and Austin Martin, and Emma Blanchard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends who were blessed to know her. Patsy touched the lives of many people with her love, kindness and generosity. She displayed her characteristic strength all the way to the end. She loved being with her family, watching her grandchildren play, working with her plants and above all crocheting and sewing blankets for family, friends and especially babies born to those whom she knew and loved. Friends and family are invited to attend the wake/rosary on Friday December 30, 2011 from 5-8 with the rosary starting at 6:30 at Blanchard-St. Denis’ Funeral Home. The Catholic mass and burial for Patsy will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 11:00am at The Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches with burial to follow at the Catholic Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations to be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital or to the scholarship fund in memory of her niece, Barbara Sliman Fontan Scholarship, C\O LHS Alumni, P.O. Box 1381, Leesville, LA 71446. While we mourn her loss, we celebrate Patsy’s Communion with Christ in heaven; the purity and integrity of her life challenges all of us to a greater commitment.
