A Mass of Christian Burial for Arthur J. Metoyer will be held on Monday, the 9th of January 2012 at 11 A.M. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Natchitoches, LA with Father John O’Brien serving as celebrant. Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church from 9 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. The recitation of the holy rosary will commence at 10:30 A.M. Following the funeral mass, a committal service for Arthur will be in the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Melrose, LA.
Arthur J. Metoyer was born December 30, 1922, in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was the second of 5 children born to the union of Joseph L. Metoyer and Harriett Llorens. He passed away on December 31, 2011, at the age of 89 at Matthew’s Memorial Nursing Home, in Alexandria, LA, where he resided for the past year. Arthur was a devoted Christian throughout his life. He was baptized at St Anthony Catholic church in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He moved from Natchitoches to Los Angeles in 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army and participated in WW2, with two tours and received an honorable discharged after 6 years of service. He re-established his civilian life as a manager of a large catering service in Los Angeles for over 30 years where he retired. He was registered at St Agnes Catholic Church where he devoted his time and care to the parish. He re-established his roots by relocating to Natchitoches, Louisiana in 1988. He registered and participated as an Extraordinary Minister and Sacristan at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Harriett, his sisters Mary–Nuggy-Elizabeth, Annette, and Melvina Theresa.
Arthur is survived in California by his sister Marian A. Metoyer of Redding, California; 17 nephews and nieces; 16 grand nephews and nieces; and 17 great grand nephews and nieces; and a host of cousins and friends in Louisiana.
His service will be attended by his Nephews, David Lynn Metoyer and his wife Carmela of Pomona, California; and Patrick Gerald Metoyer and his wife Norma of Hacienda Heights, California.
Arthur and his California family are truly appreciative to his cousins Elizabeth Sarpy, Dorothy Pichon, and Lillian Dugar for the care giving they so lovingly provided.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Patrick Gerald Metoyer, James Sarpy, Reginald Sarpy, David Lynn Metoyer, Gerald “Gerry” Sarpy, and Michael Robert Sarpy.
Those serving as honorary pallbearers will be James Conant, Paul Cortinas, Michael Gonzales, Anthony Sarpy, Dana Metoyer, Patrick Metoyer, Jr., Ronald Metoyer, Allan Metoyer, Derek Metoyer, Donna (Metoyer) Gonzales, Melanie (Metoyer) Ruiz and Randy Metoyer.
