Nolan Hickman

April 29, 1937 — January 2, 2012

Nolan Ray Hickman 74 of Natchitoches passed away Monday, January 2, 2012 at the LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, La. He was born April 29, 1937 in Montgomery, LA the son of the late John Virgil Hickman. He leaves his sons, Darrel Hickman of Natchitoches, Johnny Hickman of Fort Worth, TX and Nathan Hickman of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Breta Hickman-Sexton, son-in-law Robert Sexton and grandchild Amber Cook of Plato, MO; his brothers Howard Hickman of Montgomery, LA, Marlin Hickman of Pampa, TX, Travis Hickman and numerous nieces and nephews. In his early years, Nolan dedicated himself to the defense of the nation by proudly serving in the Armed Forces until his retirement in 1975. On one particular assignment in Japan, Nolan met his soul mate, Shizuko Kaji. They united in matrimony on October 12, 1959 and for fifty blissful years; they shared in each other’s dreams. Nolan was a member of the Clifton Masonic Lodge NO. 463. He was an avid collector of guns and gold coins. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. Although he left us broken hearted, it is said, “when hearts listen, angels sing”, and to that, Nolan, with his beloved wife Shizuko, are again embraced in a celebration of eternal love. We should not mourn the man who died, but rather we should thank God that such a man lived. The greatest gift we ever had come from God; we called him Dad! Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. He is preceded in death by his wife Shizuko Hickman, brother J.V. Hickman, father John Virgil Hickman, and step-mother Breta Mae Hickman. Visitation will be Friday January 6, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Crews/New Salem Cemetery in Crews, LA.
