Funeral service for Clovis Carlton Tate will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Westside Baptist Church in Natchitoches, LA with Dr. Dwight St. Andre and Dr. Bill Hudson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm on Sunday before the service at Westside Baptist Church. A second service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Rock Corner Baptist Church in Dubach, LA with Dr. Dwight St. Andre officiating. Interment will follow at Rock Corner Cemetery in Dubach, LA.
Clovis Carlton Tate passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012. He was born September 15, 1931 to the late Clyde Carlton and the late Edna Heffington Tate in Conway, Arkansas. He was also preceded in death by his son, Craig Carlton Tate of Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Mr. Tate was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps being honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1959. He received the Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Korean Presidential Unit Citation. Clovis served as a Marine Merchant Captain while working for Offshore Logistics. He retired from Wal-Mart after 14 years.
Those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Nelda Lorenne Tate; sisters, Billie Heard, Donna Rutledge and husband, Ed, Christy Brown and husband, Max all of Arkansas; daughters, Lorie Speer and husband, Byron Brantley Speer; Melissa Jennings and husband, Lawrence, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Tate; grandchildren, Jacob Shaw, Daniel Shaw, Jeanette Mogridge and husband, Eric, Sarah Shaw, Grace Shaw, Faith Shaw, Baron Brumley, Colt Jennings, Race Jennings, Christen Tate, Casey Tate, Colin Tate, Meredith Todd, and Ben Speer; great-grandchildren, Anthony Shaw, Preslee Todd, Lydia Mogridge, and Gabriella Shaw; in-laws, Margaret Brewster, James Elton and Imogene Frasier, of Ruston.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Byron Brantley Speer, Jr., Lawrence Jennings, Jacob Shaw, Daniel Shaw, Eric Mogridge, and Ben Speer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Colt Jennings, Colin Tate, Phil Tackett, and James Frasier.
