A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Jean G. Maricelli at 11 a.m. on Friday, the 4th of May 2012 at
the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Natchitoches with Father Stephen Scott Chemino to
serve as celebrant. Burial will follow in Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches. Friends are invited to
a visitation with the family from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in
Natchitoches. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Maricelli, Natchitoches resident for over 50 years, passed away on the 1st of May 2012 after a long
illness. She was born on the 6th of July 1934 in Goldonna. Jean was the eighth of eight children born to
Elbert and Leta Gunter. After graduation from high school she attended Northwestern College. She was
a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She met her husband Charles Maricelli while attending
Northwestern. After graduating she went to work for Northwestern as a secretary. Following retiring,
Mrs. Maricelli went to work for Valley Electric. Jean was a very active member in her church
participating as a member of the choir and as a greeter for evening Mass. She also led the weekly
morning Mass. She was a devoted mother, wife, sister and daughter.
She is predeceased by her husband Charles Maricelli, Jr.; her sisters, LaNell Miller, Susie Gunter and
Francis Harris; and her brother, Everett Gunter.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Rod Maricelli and wife Anita of Shreveport and
Lynn Maricelli Owens and husband David of Bossier City; her four grandchildren Michael Maricelli of
Baton Rouge, LA; David Owens, Jr. and wife Patty of Camp Pendleton, San Diego, CA; Kimberly Hicks and
her husband Tyler of Maui, Hawaii, and Kyle Owens of Jackson Heights, NY and three great
grandchildren; her sister, Eula Henry and her brothers, Buddy and J. O. Gunter.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Michael Maricelli, Kyle Owens, David Owens, Jr., Guy Fletcher, Bill Cross, John Bernard and Willie Bice.
The family is eternally grateful to the unsung heroes of today, the care staff of Natchitoches Assisted
Living, The Glen Retirement Center of Shreveport and the care staff especially Dino Durr and Christus
Schumpert Hospice who ministered to Jean with loving kindness and who compassionately carried the
burden of her illness.
In lieu of floral contributions, the family requests that memorial donations in Jean’s name be made to
the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
