On Monday, September 24, 2007 in Allen , TX , our beloved Gene went home to be with Jesus. Her two children were by her side. A native of Ivan , LA , she was born on February 12th, one of five children born to Casper and Cardile Young.
Visitation will be held at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 on Friday, September 28, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Natchitoches . Officiating will be Rev. Tommy Rush. Burial will follow at 2:00 in Cotton Valley , LA at the Cotton Valley Cemetery .
Emogene was preceded in death by her husband, DeWitt Milam; her parents, one brother, Casper Neal; and her son-in-law, Larry Brewer.
She is survived by her daughter, Toni Brewer, of Allen , TX ; her son, Jerome Milam and wife Patti, of Nederland , TX ; and three sisters: Evelyn Deen and husband, Jesse Deen, Evonne Thomson and Edwina Creamer. Also left to cherish their memories of her are five precious grandchildren: Blake Brewer, Natalie Brewer, Marcus Brewer, Heather Barnes and Elizabeth Milam; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and adored her.
Gene has been a resident of Natchitoches since 1968 where she was an active member of First Baptist Church and the Faith Senior Adults Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. After retiring from the Natchitoches Parish School Board Office, she enjoyed serving as a volunteer at the Lov’n Care Mission in Natchitoches .
She lived her life by example and was a wonderful role model for all. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She loved both immediate and extended family alike and always made a point to be present at every event. She loved to welcome friends and family into her home. A special time of celebration with her family was during the Natchitoches Christmas Festival.
Honoring her as pallbearers will be her nephews: Duane Deen, Larry Deen, Dale Creamer, Dennis Creamer, Stephen Milam, Mike Milam, and
Jay Milam.
