Alton Joseph Chelette, Sr., age 91, took the Lord's hand and went home on October 6, 2007
Mr. Chelette of Natchez, La., died Saturday, October 6, 2007, at Lexington House in Alexandria, La.
A Celebration of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday, October 11, 2007 iat St. Augustine Catholic Church at Isle Brevelle, La. with Rev. Jacob Thomas officiating. Entombment will be in St. Augustine Catholic Mausoleum at Isle Brevelle, La. Visitation will be Thursday, October 11, 2007 from 8 AM until 9:45 with a rosary at 9 AM in the Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home.
Mr. Chelette grew up in the Cane River Area where he married Gertrude Conant He moved to Alexandria, La. where he lived until l977 when he returned to his childhood home. for the past five years, Mr. Chelette was a resident of Alexandria, La. He was a carpenter and farmer. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, bingo and old moveis. He was an active member of St. Augustine Catholic Church where he was an Eucharistic Minister, active member of the Holy Name Society, Knights Of Peter Claver, and retired Senior Volunteer with the Council On Aging. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Conant Chelette; parents, William Tillman Chelette, Sr. and Armaline Roque Chelette.
He is survived by his four daughters, Elaine Chelette Evans, Judith Chelette Hightower and husband Archie, Lorraine Chelette Sigur and husband Nathan, and Phyllis Chelette; one son, Alton Chelette, Jr.; one sister, Mary Ila Metoyer; one brother, Tillman Chelette, Jr.
