Edgar Carroll Roge’, Sr. of Bermuda, Louisiana, died June 19, 2012, at Cabrina Grace Home after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer.
Mr. Roge’ was born January 30, 1928, at Melrose to Lizzie Martin Roge’ and Edgar Leopold Roge’. He attended Cypress High School and continued his education at Northwestern State College. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1949.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Reta Carnahan Roge’, and his three children: Sheron Lacefield of Tyler,Texas; Debra Bateman and husband, Jim, of LaPlace, Louisiana; and Carroll Roge’and wife Dorian, also of Tyler. Mr.Roge’ has two grandchildren: Kristen Lacefield of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and Jennifer Lacefield, of Texarkana,Texas. His step-grandchildren are Amanda Bateman and daughters, Morgan and Emma Grace, of Alexandria; Jamie Jusselin and husband, Joey, and daughter, Anna, of Gonzales; and Bud Bateman and wife,Alicia, of LaPlace.
Mr. Roge’ was a lifelong resident of the Cane River area, where he farmed and raised racehorses—his avid hobby, which was also the source of many close friendships. In the first part of his career he managed the Little Eva Plantation at Chopin and Melrose Plantation before accumulating his farm and becoming a self-employed landowner. He was also a licensed real estate broker for 25 years.
Mr. Roge’ served on various community and local business boards, including the Natchitoches Parish Farm Bureau Association of which he was president, ValleyFarmers Co-op and the Waterworks District No. 2.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Natchitoches, where he enjoyed attending Sunday school with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two half-brothers, John Vernon Vallery and James Willy Vallery; and nephew Vernon Vallery.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 22, at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Pallbearers are Mike Hayes, Charles Roge’, Felix Louis Roge’, Dennis Vallery, George Waggoner and Dr. Eddie White. Honorary pallbearers are John Aaron, Tommy Dunagan, Jeff Guilliams, James O’Bannon , J.W.Smith and the members of his Sunday school class.
The family extends thanks and appreciation to the loving and caring staff of Christus Cabrini Hospital and Christus Grace Home in Alexandria, including Drs. Kelly Letsinger and Dr. Hong Y. Liu. Thanks also to excellent care of Dr. Manish Dhawan and the staff at Northwest Louisiana Oncology Associates.
