George Edward Lee, age 84, of Flora, LA, died Saturday, November 3, 2007, at Life Care Hospital in Shreveport, LA. Arrangements are being handled by Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home, in Natchitoches, LA, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Monday, November 5, 2007. The funeral service will be at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 6, 2007 , with Rev. Olan McLaren officiating. Interment will be at Weaver Cemetery in Flora, LA.
Mr George was raised on a farm during the early years of his life in the Ashland, LA area. He served in the Navy during WWII on a Sub-Chaser from 1942 to 1945. Upon leaving the service, he started with the Southern California Edison Company, worked up to a foreman’s position, and after 37 years of service, he retired. He loved boating, fishing, and loved to watch Professional Bull Riding. He received an award from the police jury for cleaning up the side of the highway in Flora, LA. He loved the outdoors. He loved helping others accomplish tasks and he loved his children and grandchildren more than anything. He was a very patient man, and will be truly missed by his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lee and Sallie Lindsay Lee; one sister, Neva Thomas; two brothers, Marvin Lee and Ellis Lee, and his first wife, Barbara Yvonne Ellis; and brother-in-law, Charles Ellis.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lee; three daughters, Cyndi Balkovetz and husband Frank of Twin Bridges, MT, Laura Carlier and friend Richard Winn of Independence, MO, Charlene Rogers and husband Trent of Carrollton, GA; two sons, Randy Lee and wife Elly of Competition, MO and Kavin Boyd and friend Donna of Baker, LA; eleven grandchildren, Cody and Clay Garrison, Travis and Erin Carlier, Kirsti Rogers, Brandon, Caleb, and Tori Boyd, Lyndon Knuepple, Francina and Carol Lee; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Robinson of Natchitoches, LA and Gracie Lehmamn of Meadville, MS; three brothers, Dallas Lee of Natchitoches, LA, Marion Lee of Jefferson, TX, and Gahagan Lee of Ashland, LA; two sister-in-laws, Arvella Ellis and Naomi Lee; nieces, Sherry Ancell and husband Wayne and Betsy Tidball, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lee had a special extended family including Bill and Sue Vascocu; Sam and Kim Baker and their children; and Emeline McLaren.
Pallbearers will be Sam Baker, Gene Knuepple, Jerald Barron, Dwayne Lee, Danny Kay, and Bruce Baker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill and Gary Vascocu.
