Funeral service for Richard Turner Johnson, Jr. will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, November 30, 2012 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA with US Army Chaplain Col. Lee Dickson (ret.) officiating. Interment will follow at American Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on November 29, 2012 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA.
Mr. Johnson, 50 years of age, entered eternal rest, November 27, 2012. Richard was born in Natchitoches, LA on October 31, 1962, sharing his birthday with his beloved uncle Lovick Howard Johnson, III. His grandparents were the late Dr. and Mrs. W. K. Wimberly of Campti and Natchitoches, and the late Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Johnson, Jr. His parents are Mrs. Susanne Wimberly Crews, the late W.P. Crews, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Richard T. Johnson, Sr.
Richard spent his early years with his family in Europe and attended prep school in England. Upon returning to Louisiana, he attended Hickory Ridge School, and then graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Richard was an avid basketball player and was pleased to share his birthday with Dale Brown whom he considered to be a great coach. Richard was a graduate of Northwestern State University and a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
A tragic accident on March 7, 1981 left Richard a paraplegic. For nearly 32 years, he has courageously endured the mobility and health problems associated with the handicap. Richard always had a smile and his faith in the Lord gave him his strength of endurance. Richard was a member of the First Baptist Church in Natchitoches.
Richard has been blessed for twenty years to have by his side his loving and devoted wife, Christy Johnson. They were wed on August 03, 1992.
He will forever be remembered by his wife; his parents; his brothers and sisters, J. Hammond and Trista Perot of Dallas, TX, Lance and Terrah Johnson of Shreveport, LA, Leslie and Mickey Kennedy of Fort Worth, TX, Kim and John Stafford of Round Rock, TX, and Steve and Renee' Crews of Natchitoches, LA; his aunt, Mrs. Linnye Wimberly and Shawn Daily of Natchitoches, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
