Funeral service for Carol Ann Sewell will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA with Bruce Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Vowells Mill, LA. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on December 28, 2012 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA.
Carol Sewell, 69 years of age, passed away December 24, 2012. Carol was born February 18, 1943 to the late Alvie Wilemon and Gladys Toney Wilemon in Tulsa, OK. Carol was a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and friend, and Nana. She graduated from high school in Katoosa, OK, where she was a majorette and basketball star. She went to secretarial school and then married Gary Lee Martin. They moved to Dallas, TX, where she worked for Dr. W. A. Criswell of First Baptist Church as a secretary. She and Gary raised two children together; a son, Bradley James Martin and a daughter, Leigh Ann Martin. She and Gary eventually divorced but remained friends. She later married Bobby Wayne "Buddy" Hendrick and worked for his accounting firm until his untimely death. She then worked as an office manager for engineering firm Chiang, Patel, and Associates, until her retirement.
Upon her retirement, she moved to Natchitoches, LA, where she met and married Jesse Rudolph Sewell. They traveled the United States together. She became a master gardener and volunteered at the L.S.U. Ag. Office and at the Women?s Resource Center. When their marriage ended she continued to volunteer her time and was interim secretary for a short period at her home church, Trinity Baptist. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed cooking for them and playing with her grandson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Gladys Wilemon Toney of Tahlequah, OK; her daughter and son-in-law, Leigh Ann and Lyle Miller of Provencal, LA, her neice, Schandra Bates of Park Hill, OK; her grandson, Bradley James Scott; her step-granddaughter Ashlyn Miller of Provencal, LA; and her two closest friends that were more like sisters, Corkey Bruce of Natchitoches, LA and Marlys Ferguson of Dallas, TX.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Alvie Wilemon; her sister and brother-in-law, Alverna and Stan Adams; her husband, Buddy Hedrick; one son, Bradley James Martin; and her step-father, Gene Toney.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Bob Miller, Mathan Miller, Bryan Miller, Jr., Gary Foshee, Jr., Mace Morris, and Wayne Rachal.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bradley Scott and Jordan Johnson.
The family wishes to thank Dr. John Hogg, and the staff at Thompson Home Health, for their loving care and support this past year. We are comforted knowing she is rejoicing in Heaven today with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
