A mass of Christian Burial to honor the memory of Maziel “Mama Ziel” LaCour will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the 13th of March 2013 at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Melrose with Father Adam Travis to serve as celebrant. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Mrs. LaCour would have been 96 years of age on April 15th. She was born in Cloutierville, Louisiana in 1917, the daughter of Ovid Coutee and Octavie Brevelle. Maziel met and married the late Joseph Macon LaCour.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters and three brothers, her great-grandson, Joshua T. Upshaw, and grandson-in-law Travis R. Upshaw.
She devoted her life as a mother, homemaker and an individual in service of others. Maziel was a devout Catholic and member of St. Augustine Parish her entire life, while also serving as a Christian Mother for 52 years.
Maziel leaves many memories to be cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her two (2) daughters Lula LaCour of Melrose, Louisiana and Theresa Brossett (Isaac) of Natchitoches, Louisiana; six (6) grandchildren Brenda Upshaw of Longview, Texas, Sherri Conde (Lamarr) of Natchitoches, Angela Okorie (Sunday) of Bakersfield, California, Cynthia Sanders (George) of Magnolia, Texas, Catherine Llorance (Benjamin, Jr.) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Linda Pichon (Kevin) of Bedford, Texas; nine (9) great-grandchildren: Danielle Conde, Lamarr McGaskey, Jr., Megan Norris, Benjamin Llorance III, Cydnee Sanders, Lacey Sanders, Lillian Pichon, Natalie Pichon and Chloe Pichon; one sister-in-law Alberta Coutee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Maziel’s most recent blessing was to welcome the birth of her first great-great grandchild Harper Adjei.
