A graveside service for John Burrhl Young was held at 5 pm on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Memory Lawn Cemetery. Rev. John Cunningham served as celebrant.
Mr. Young, 94 years of age, passed away on May 18, 2013 in Natchitoches. He was born to the late William Henry Young and Extina Possoit Young in Powhatan, LA on June 28, 1918. He proudly served during WWII in the Army Air Corps from October 1940 to December 1945. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands, was wounded in combat and awarded a Bronze Star. Upon returning home from the war, he enjoyed farming and ranching, was a member of the LA Cattleman’s Association and the American Legion. For over 50 years he was a parishioner at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, an active member of the Knights of Columbus and a 4th Degree Knight. He was a loving husband, father, and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Extina Possoit Young; three brothers, Leo Young, Alex Young, and William Young; and one sister, Annie Extina Young.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ora Lee Atkins Young of Natchitoches, LA; his daughter, Eleanor Ann Young Cooke and her husband Corbin of Houston, TX; his God-Daughter, Janet Smith Guidry and her son Byron Guidry. Jr. of Natchitoches, LA; and his close friends, J.W. Smith Jr. and his wife Faye of Natchitoches, LA.
