Funeral services for Susie Gunter, will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception with Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino officiating. Visitation will Tuesday, April 1, 2008 from 5 PM until 8 PM with a rosary at 6 PM and visitation on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 from 8 AM until 9:30 AM in Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home.
A long-time resident of Natchitoches, Susie passed away Monday, March 31, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Susie was born at home at the family farm in Goldonna, La. on August 26, 1923 to Elbert and Leta Gunter. She was the fourth of eight children. She graduated in 1940 valedictorian of her class. She moved to Natchitoches and attended Northwestern for two and a half years, studying upper elementary education. She then worked for Gulf Public Gas company before becoming a beloved fixture at City Bank and Trust Company. She worked for City Bank for 45 years and retired as Vice President. After retiring, she volunteered as treasurer for Catholic Daughters of the American Cross and volunteered at the Natchitoches Genealogy and Historical Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Everett Gunter and sister Francis Harris. She is survived by her sisters Eula Henry and Jean Maricelli of Natchitoches and LaNell Miller of Shreveport and brothers Lester “Buddy” Gunter of Natchitoches and James Olin “J.O.” Gunter of Mansfield. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who will miss her dearly.
Pallbearers will be Carl P. Henry, Rod Maricelli, Mike Rosebery, James Dodd, Henry Rachal Jr. and Joe Pierson Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert E. Porter, Charles Jackson, and Jimmy Gunter.
Susie will be remembered as a quintessential southern lady, greeting all with her grace and charm, perfectly coiffed hair and impeccable dress.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace Home Hospice or a charity of your choice.
