Lou May Pratt Johnson, lifetime resident of Natchitoches, Louisiana, passed away June 7, 2013 in the same home which she was born after a short, but valiant battle against cancer. Lou May was born on October 21, 1925 in the front bedroom of Twelve Oaks Plantation to Dr. Joshua Bennett Pratt, a physician and planter, and Lou May Murphy Pratt of Cherokee Plantation, a Louisiana Normal College schoolteacher. Lou attended Natchitoches High School and the lab school of Northwestern State University. In 1945, she graduated from NSU with a degree in Chemistry. During her years at NSU, Lou was an active member of Pi Kappa Sigma sorority and served as chapter president. She also was selected as Potpourri Calendar Girl and Who’s Who. Upon graduation, Lou completed a program in Galveston, Texas to become a registered medical technologist. In 1947, she met and married Eddie Glen Johnson, Jr., a certified public accountant, to whom she was married for almost fifty years. Lou was the chapter president of the Natchitoches Service League and the Philanthropic Educational Organization. In addition, she served as a regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution and treasurer of the Natchitoches Parish Women for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches. Lou was the area representative for the Holiday In Dixie Cotillion Club for thirty years. She was a life long bridge player and developed friendships that would last a lifetime. She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie G. Johnson, Jr; her parents; two brothers; one sister; and her daughter, Dr. Nancy Jean Johnson. She is survived by her son, Dr. Eddie G. Johnson, III; and her grandchildren, Alexandra Kittrell and Joshua Orsulak, who were the highlights of her life. Her family would like to express a special thanks to her long time caregiver and friend, Daisy May Tignon. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life in a graveside service at the American Cemetery in Natchitoches on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 3 p.m. Lou will be laid to rest with her husband and daughter.
