A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph “Buddy” Coutee, Sr. will be 10 am Saturday June 22, 2013 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Campti with Rev. Ryan Humphries serving as celebrant. Interment will follow at Campti Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 9 pm on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 pm on Friday in the funeral home chapel.
Joseph “Buddy” Coutee, Sr. was born to the union of the late Lawrence and Louvenia Coutee on April 5, 1924. He transitioned from time to eternity on June 17, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.
He was a devout catholic and one of the eldest parishioners of the church. He served faithfully until his health declined. He retired from Natchitoches Parish School Board in 1992. He was employed at Campti High School and Lakeview High School where he touched the lives of many, including the lives of student’s faculty and staff. During his tenure, he acquired many lifelong friends. Joseph was also a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Louvenia Coutee; one brother, Lester Coutee; and four sisters, Ivory Mae Coutee, Zettie Legardy, Eugene Telsea and Gladys Flanders.
Those who will forever cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Lottie Mae Coutee; two sons, William Coutee (Tanya) of Arlington, TX, and Joseph Coutee, Jr. (Pam) of Natchitoches, LA; four daughters, Wanda Gilbert (Sherman) of Montgomery, LA, Connie Wallace (Jeffery) of Red Oak, TX, Diane Morrison (Ricky) of Calumet, OK and Rebecca Babers (Amord) of Campti, LA; one special niece who was like a daughter, Charlene Vaughn of Shreveport, LA; 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and one brother, Lawrence Coutee, II; four sisters, Julia Telsee, Mae Collins, Maggie Bush (Alvin) and Mary Jo Vaughn; one brother in law, William Webber, Jr. of San Antonio, TX; five God children, Joe Nathan Jones, Geraline Reliford, Carolyn Lynch, Sonya Helaire, and Lester Coutee; along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Rico Morrison, Shavonte Gilbert, Joshua Coutee, Shermonte Gilbert, Joffrey Wallace, Jeffrey Wallace, Jr. and Joseph Coutee, III. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawerence Coutee, Earl Morgan, Earnest Morgan, O.P. Moore, Jimmy Gallien, Rick Tinoco, William Webber, Jr., Simpson Williams, David Fredieu, Tony Fredieu, David Gallien and Jerry Gallien.
