Kathleen Futrell Kennedy

Kathleen F. Kennedy, 95, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2013. Kathleen was born August 28, 1917 in Natchitoches, Louisiana, the tenth child of Horace and Josephine Futrell. Kate, as many called her, was a teacher in the Elfrida Elementary and Valley Union High School Districts for 36 years. She moved to Elfrida in January 1948, and loved the community and friends that she had made for many years. She finished college with a Business Degree as well as a Library Science Degree. In 1943 during the war she worked for the government at Ft. Polk Louisiana where she met her future husband J.P. (Bob) Kennedy. They married in November 1945. They moved to Deming, New Mexico where their only daughter Sandra Allen was born in 1947. She was widowed in 2010 after 64 years of marriage to J.P. Kennedy and all her brothers, sisters, parents preceded her in death. Kate is survived by her daughter Sandra Allan (Harvey), three grandchildren, Carrie (Ted Lanier) Lee, Cheryl (Carlos Ogas) Allen and Brian (Diane) Allen along with 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the First Southern Baptist Church of Elfrida. Graveside Services will be in the American Cemetery, Natchitoches, Louisiana on Saturday, June 29th at 10:00 am under the guidance of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home on Friday, June 28th from 6pm until 8pm. Contributions may be made in her name to the Darrell Lee Scholarship Fund, c/o Valley Union High School, P.O. Box 158, Elfrida, Arizona 85610.
