Funeral services honoring the life of Charles A. Martin (C.A.), 99, of Natchitoches, will be held 2 PM Sunday, April 13, 2008 in Blanchard St. Denis Chapel with Rev. Perry Webb and Rev. Jerry Martin officiating. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery at Natchitoches, La. Visitation will be Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 5 PM until 8 PM and on Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 8 AM until service time in the funeral home.
Charles Almon Martin was born September 21, 1908 in Mora, LA to Benjamin Martin and Viola Marshall Martin. He passed away in Natchitoches Regional Medical Center Wednesday, April 9, 2008 .
He attended Kisatchie High School, and received his B.A. in Education from Northwestern State University (then called Louisiana Normal College). He received his Master's in Education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, AR.
Mr. Martin served his country during W. W. II as a member of the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater, reaching the rank of full Lieutenant
He was Principal at Ajax High School, Goldonna High School, George Parks Elementary School in Natchitoches, and Robeline High School.
C.A. was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Natchitoches, where he was a member for over sixty years. He served terms as Chairman of the Board of Deacons and Director of Sunday School. He was proud of the fact that he once taught 150 Sundays without absence.
His hobbies were planting orchards and gardens, and operating a Christmas Tree Farm.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Boyter Martin; parents, three sisters: Lela Martin Bolton, Leva Martin Bolton, and Reancy Martin Bolton; and 6 brothers: Jessie Lafayette (Fate), Benjamin Monroe, Thomas Alva, Solomon Grady, Osa Lemanchia, and Robert L. Martin.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Nancy Martin Guillet, and Diane Martin, and many beloved nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be Steve Pezant, David Martin, Grady Martin, Brian Martin, Dan Martin and John Martin.
