Mary Ada Gallien Evans of Natchitoches died on Friday, June 28, 2013, at the age of 93. Services will be 10 am Tuesday July 2, 2013 in the chapel of Blanchard St. Denis with Rev. Thomas Paul serving as celebrant. Interment will follow at Fern Park Cemetery in Natchitoches. The family will receive friends on Monday July 1, 2013 from 5 pm until 7 pm at Blanchard St. Denis.
Ada, the daughter of Emanuel and Julia Gallien of Derry, was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, husband, Earl Worth Evans of Natchitoches, eldest daughter, Earleen Ruth Evans of Shreveport, and infant son, Joseph. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Wolfe and husband Bert of Temple, TX, Linda Crafton and husband Cliff of Covington, Lillian Richie and husband Vernon of Shreveport, and Julia Evans and fiancé Randy Shows of Natchitoches; sons, Michael Evans and wife Cindy of Shreveport, Donald Evans and wife Cay of Shreveport, Alan Evans of Natchitoches, and Neil Evans and wife Diane of Shreveport; grandchildren, James Earl Humphreys and wife Mellissa of Temple, TX, Aaron Evans and wife Candice of Shreveport, Margaret Richie and fiancé William Gaskins of Shreveport, Clay Crafton and wife Jenni of Tampa, FL, David Cadwallader of Metairie, Denise Cadwallader of Metairie, and Annelise Eaglin and husband Travis of Pineville; great grandchildren, James Monroe Humphreys of Temple, TX, Miles Crafton and Parker Crafton, both of Tampa, FL, and Aubrey Eaglin and Olivia Eaglin, both of Pineville.
Ada graduated from Natchitoches High School in 1937, married Earl in 1941, and was a devoted wife and mother. Together they reared their nine children with abundant love and much self-sacrifice. Ada was an accomplished seamstress, bestowing hand-sewn and treasured gifts of dolls and cathedral quilts to those she loved. Her culinary specialties were her savory Natchitoches meat pies and the traditional holiday fruitcake. Soft spoken and kind, Ada always had a memory and a smile to share.
