A mass of Christian burial for Janis Longlois will be 11 AM Wednesday, July 3rd at St. Anne’s Catholic Church at Old River with Father Thomas Paul serving as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 PM to 9 PM on July 2nd at Blanchard-St. Denis. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 PM during the visitation on Tuesday. Janis F. Longlois passed away Sunday June 30, 2013 around 8:00 PM with her family at her bedside. She was at her residence in Flora, LA. She was 80 years old. She was born November 17, 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alma Weaver Flurry; her husband, of 51 years Sammie Longlois; an infant son; one brother, Kenneth Flurry; and one sister, Jeanette Adams. Janis, mom, or “old maw”, as she was affectionately called, will be greatly missed by her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life and were always around her. She loved her church, St. Anne’s at Old River, very much, where she sang in the choir and played the organ for many years. She will be missed by her church family and all who knew her. Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Sandy Bennett and husband Lesley “Zip” and Jean Hernandez and husband Ralph of Flora, LA; three grandchildren, Bruce Hernandez and wife Peggy, Becky Phillips and husband Jason, and Missy Jackson, all of Flora, LA; five great grandsons, Tanner Hernandez, Sammie and Austin Phillips, and Mikhail and Maury Jackson, all of Flora, LA; one sister, Pat Winner of The Woodlands, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include: Bruce Hernandez, Tanner Hernandez, Fred Carter, Terry Bennett, Corey Bennett, John Longlois, James Longlois, and Jason Phillips. Honorary Pallbearers include: Sammie and Austin Phillips, Mikhail and Maury Jackson, and Jimmy Brown.
