Eula Gunter Henry of Natchitoches passed away on July 2nd, 2013 in the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 93 years old.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church in Natchitoches, Friday July 5th at 10am in the morning, with Pastor Ryan Humphries as celebrant. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery. There will be a rosary in the Chapel of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home at 7pm on Thursday, July 4th with visitation from 5pm to 8pm.
Eula affectionately known as “Sister” was the oldest child of Elbert and Leta Gunter of Goldonna. She was preceded in death by her parents and her six siblings, Lester “Buddy” Gunter, Susie Gunter, Everette Gunter, and Jean Maricelli all of Natchitoches, and Francis Harris and Nell Miller of Shreveport, and her husband of 53 years Carl Henry Jr.
She is survived by one brother J.O. Gunter of Mansfield; three sons, Carl “Skeeter” Henry and wife Marteel and Chris Henry of Natchitoches., Mike Henry and wife Gayle of Oxford, Mississippi, and daughter Sharon Henry of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Walter Ledet and wife Carolyn of Covington, Damon Ledet of Breckenridge, Colorado, Stephen Ledet and wife Mackenzie of Baton Rouge, and Scott Ledet and wife Regina of Lake Charles; Carla Smith and Scott of Marion, Iowa and Sharon Jacobsen and Jed of Helena, Alabama, Dr. Stephen Henry of Sacramento, California, Joseph Henry and wife Marlene of Nashville, Tennessee, William Henry of Fort Huachuca, Arizona; great-grandchildren Miranda and Tanner Ledet, Luke and Lauren Ledet, Emily and Kathryn Smith, Patrick Jacobsen, and Patrick Henry, plus a host of nieces and nephews.
Eula graduated from Goldonna High School in 1936, moved to Natchitoches and was co-owner and manager of the Riverview Café before joining the Women’s Auxiliary Corps in 1941. She married Carl Henry Jr. and they operated Colonial Flower Shop for over thirty years.
Eula loved being a homemaker and was an “exceptional cook”. She loved preparing holiday meals and was a devoted wife, mother, grand-mother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for 70 years.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are her seven grandsons.
