Florence Carter

Florence Nelson Carter passed to her greater reward in Springhill, LA Sunday, July 28th in the presence of her family. Her funeral services will be Friday, August 2nd at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home's Chapel at 10:00 am. The graveside service will be at the Lambertown Cemetery (Shamrock). She will be interred beside her late husband, Doyle Carter. The family will receive friends at 5:00 - 9:00 pm on Thursday, August 1st then again at 8:00 am - 10:00 am on Friday, August 2nd. Florence was born March 17th, 1935 to the late Rupert Edward Nelson and Susie Jordan Nelson of Marthaville, LA. She lived and attended school in Marthaville, LA until she was 18. She then moved to Shreveport where she met and married Doyle. The two returned to Natchitoches Parish in 1966 where they lived on Black Lake until their passing. She was always quick to give a smile, a hug, a laugh, and a meal. She was a dedicated member of Westwind Baptist Church. She served as the first church secretary and a Sunday school teacher from 1976 until 2006. Florence touched the lives of countless young people in the area. Her house was a meal stop and second home for many, often unannounced. In the latter stages of her life she stayed with her granddaughter, Christy, in Springhill, LA. While challenged by her health, Florence still continued to touch the lives of others in Springhill. While she was mother to three, she was a mom to countless others. She was fiercely dedicated to her Lord, her husband, her family, her church, and the service of others. She is survived by her sons, Charles Steven Carter, Sr. and his Fiancé' Kandis Barnes of Foster, OK, Doyle Ray Carter Jr. and wife LuAnn of Holly Lake Ranch, TX, and Darryl Glenn Carter and wife Deena of Palestine, TX; seven grandchildren, Christy Carter Knippers and husband Shane, Charles Steven Carter, Jr, Andrea Carter Caldwell and husband Josh, Abigale Carter Thornburg and husband Jerry, Clayton Doyle Carter, Eric Steven Carter and wife Dana, and Wesley Glenn Carter; six great grandchildren, Shelbi Marie, Skye Christine, Caden Allen, Joseph Allen, Elijah Thomas, and Rylee Grace; one sister, Polly Carver of Zwolle, LA; and one brother, Raymond Nelson of Marthaville, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Carter and her parents, Rupert Edward Nelson and Susie Sarah Jordan Nelson. Additionally several of her brothers and sisters, Rupert "Ezra" Nelson, James "Jack" Nelson, Clyde "Bo" Nelson, David "Sonny" Nelson, Floyd Nelson, Mary Freeman, Coleen Jenkins, Naomi Gibson, and Inez Adams awaited her arrival in glory.
