Edwin L McClung, III

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edwin L. McClung, III will be 10 am Monday, August 5, 2013 at The Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches with Father Ryan Humphries serving as celebrant. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery of Natchitoches. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 pm Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Edwin Leslie McClung, III, was born in Natchitoches, LA on July 26, 1927 and passed away on August 1, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin L McClung Jr and Evelyn Byrd McClung; wife, Mary Patricia Fiechtl McClung; brother, David M McClung Sr; sister, Evelyn McClung Olivier; and daughter in law, Melinda Martin McClung. He is survived by his children,Thomas McClung (Carolyn), Leslie McAlpin (David), Dennis McClung (Sue), Philip McClung, Lee Ann Walker (Rance), and Edwin McClung (Jennifer);Grandchildren, Kara McClung, Sara Wells (Jason), Lily Boles, Jeff McAlpin, Tyler McClung, Christa Cunningham (Joe), Jessica McAlpin, Matthew Walker, Joseph McClung, and Michael McClung; great grandchildren; Ava Boles, Shane Boles, Elizabeth Cunningham; and one sister-in-law, Joan Gahagan. Mr McClung was a graduate of St. Mary’s school, NSU, and Oklahoma University School of Pharmacy in 1949. He joined the family business, McClung Drug Company in 1950 and worked there until it closed in 1974. He then joined George Gardiner at Gardiner’s Pharmacy until he retired in 1994. In 1999 the Louisiana State Board of Pharmacy presented him with a Gold Certificate lifetime membership for 50 years of active pharmacy practice. He loved his family and loved to read. He also deeply loved his catholic faith and was truly devoted to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Special thanks to Terri Ruck and Tabitha Ruck for their loving care for the last 8 years. They were truly another daughter and granddaughter to him, also to Tim Ruck for sharing his family to help care for our dad. Other special thanks to Legacy Hospice and Rhonda Carter as well as the entire staff of The Courtyard of Natchitoches. He had many special caretakers there; Alexis, Cynthia, Hattie and we especially want to thank Monica Willis who took care of him for the last 22 months. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include: Greg Giering, Jeff Zeringue, Joe Cunningham,III, Donald Ashcraft, Mickey Hennigan, and Kurt Simpson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Ruck, David McClung, Jr., Buddy Gahagan and Hurst Hall.
