Vernon Wester

Funeral services for Mr. Vernon Wester will be at 1pm Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Provencal United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Paul Grace and Rev. Betty Dew officiating. Interment will follow at Provencal Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 5pm - 9pm. Mr. Wester, 88, of Provencal was born October 21, 1924 and passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA. Mr. Wester was a native of Provencal and served 34 years with the Texas & Pacific Railroad. He retired from the Natchitoches railroad station as depot agent. He loved to talk about his railroad career and collected many railroad books and memorabilia. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II. His family loved to hear his many life stories. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Dorinda Richardson and husband Michael of Provencal; Deborah Wester of Lexington, KY; and Terry Sanders of Dallas, TX; 6 grandchildren, Michaele Mack of Dallas, TX; Marlo Richardson and husband Jeff of Dallas, TX; Shane Richardson and wife Sarah of Dallas, TX; Melanie Bainer and husband Robbie of Anacoco, LA; Somere Maniatis and husband, Tino of Dallas, TX; and Shay Sanders of Dallas, TX; and 11 great grandchildren, Brendan and Lauren Mack, Macie Robertson, Hannah, Hayden, and Chase Richardson, Braylen Bainer, Madalyn, Caylyn, and Dyson Peddy, and Gabriella Maniatis. He is preceded in death by his wife Abie, his parents, Olie Bud and Cora Butcher Wester of Provencal; 4 brothers, DC Wester, Woodrow Wester, Oather Wester, and Bill Wester of Provencal; 2 sisters, Odelle Hines of Provencal and Fannie Belle Rhodes of Many, LA. Pallbearers will be Richard Wester, Steve Wester, Carson Custis, Heath Wester, Dennis Scarborough, and Brendan Mack. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Wester and Jerry Wester. The family would like to acknowledge the loving support and caregiver to Dr. A.F. Breazeale and his staff through the years of his deteriorating health. They also thank Mrs. Verly Martin and Mrs. Cloretha Gay for their love and attentive homecare.
