Funeral services for Susie Birdwell have been scheduled for 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at the Jennings Chapel. Rev. Doug Feazell, son-in-law of Mrs. Birdwell will officiate, assisted by pastor Rev. David Hill and former pastor Rev. Edwin Fenton. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Susie Jennings Birdwell was born April 13, 1915, in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, the daughter of John Franklin and Bertie Adeline (Parks) Jennings. She died at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday, May 10, 2008. She was 93 years of age. She was married to Alvin Preston “Dick” Birdwell on October 25, 1930, who preceded her in death on October 20, 1978. Mrs. Birdwell moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in January of 1993.
Her children, Delores, Marlin, and Ramona; their spouses; their children; and their grandchildren have lost a loving and wonderful mother: she was a sustaining force in their lives; one who bathed them with love, concern, interest, and prayers because she was a prayer warrior. Mrs. Birdwell was a lifelong active member of Jennings Chapel Congregational Methodist Church in Marthaville, LA.
She is survived by two daughters, Ramona and husband Larry Sweet, Tulsa, OK and Delores and husband Rev. Doug Feazell, Florence, MS; one son, Marlin and wife Debbie Birdwell, Huntsville, TX; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Trudie and husband Dick Megason, Safford, AR. She was preceded in death by one son, Shelton D. Birdwell; three sisters, Mae Ola, Lou Ella, and Mertie Bell; and two brothers, Woodrow and Dan.
