Funeral services for Bryant Young Dowden, Jr will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Good Hope Baptist Church in Cypress, LA with Rev. Ed Fenton and James McDonald officiating. Interment will follow at Good Hope Baptist Cemetery in Cypress, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA.
Bryant Dowden, Jr, 76 years of age, passed away September 14, 2013. Bryant was born March 21, 1937 in Good Hope, LA. He was a resident of Flora, Louisiana, across the street from old Flora High School from which he graduated. He attended Northwestern State University and served his country in the United States Army. He was a faithful member of the Good Hope Baptist Church near Cypress, LA. Bryant was a fun loving and caring man. He loved to tell a good joke, and was always willing to tell tales of his wordly travels. He was a good and loyal friend and companion. He grew up working on his family's farm in Good Hope and greatly enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He will be dearly missed and mourned by all who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted, longtime companion of 23 years, Mary Soileau of Flora, LA; his children, Karen A. Dowden of Brooklyn, NY and Michael C. Dowden of West New York, NJ; Michele Jereb of Arizona; and Bryant Y. Dowden III and Alexis J. Jones of Texas; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Glennie Dowden Scarborough of Cane River and Winnie Dowden Wyatt of Texas; six nephews and their families.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Bryant Young Dowden, Sr. and Ollie Dell Moss Dowden.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Bryant Young Dowden III, James Scarborough, Jr., Robert Young Scarborough, Claude Dowden, Jr., Christopher Clay Wyatt, Donovon P. Soileau, and Philip Guillott.
