Mr. Hicks, 88, of Natchitoches, La., died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in his residence at Natchitoches, La.
He was a native of Powhatan, La. He worked with the local ASC office for more than 30 years, dragging chains to measure acreage for the local farmers before getting a desk job. Many of today's farm generation may not know, or remember, or even heard of Sammie. He still had a great interest in farming and would admire the crops and enjoy seeing the farmers working the earth. He was mindful about natural resources and what they meant to future generations. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army in France and Germany, earning a Purple Heart after getting wounded. Sammie was of the Baptist faith. He was a kind and generous man who loved his family and friends. Thank you, Sammie for being such a blessing in our lives.
