A service to honor the life of Mr. Johnny Wayne Cox, Sr. will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, October 14, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Coushatta with Bro. Bill Hinds officiating. Interment will follow at Springville Cemetery in Coushatta. The family will receive friends from 4 pm until 7 pm on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches and again on Monday from 1 pm until service time at the church.
Mr. Cox, 74 years of age and a resident of Natchitoches, passed away Friday October 11, 2013 in Shreveport, LA. He was born August 8, 1939 in Red River parish to the late John Farmer Cox and Marie Elizabeth (Lindsey) Cox. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Patty Jon Gaudet and a brother, Mike Cox.
Mr. Cox was a successful business man having owned and operated Merci Beaucoup Restaurant in Natchitoches for over 24 years. He enjoyed hard work and a passion for football. “Coach” Cox coached both varsity and junior varsity football at Riverdale Academy from 1975-1986 and junior varsity football at St. Mary’s School from 1999-2002. However, Mr. Cox found his greatest joy through those relationships he built with friends and family through the years. He truly loved people. Johnny Wayne Cox was a wonderful husband, father, coach, and community member.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rose Marie Cox; his daughter, Eve Mitchell and her husband Luke of Coushatta; a son, Johnny Wayne Cox, Jr. and his wife Reatha of Natchitoches; and a brother, Ronnie Cox and his wife Joanne of Coushatta. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Peyton Mitchell, Emily King, Christopher Gaudet, Lee Gaudet and Katie Cain as well as eight great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include: Gary DeBlieux, Trey Cox, Jerry Salley, Charles Whitehead, III, Buddy Shaver, Les Gray, William Waltman, John Allen Cobb and Russell Stacey. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Walter Ledet coffee club.
