A service to honor the life of Mr. George Othel Holland will be 2 pm Monday, October 21, 2013 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy McDonald officiating. Interment will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Vowells Mill, LA. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home.
George was born September 17, 1930 to Freeborn and Nora Montgomery Holland and passed away October 18, 2013. He proudly served as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War where he received a purple heart for the wounds he received in combat. After his service to his country, he worked for Brown & Root Construction Company but later became a poultry farmer. He loved to garden and especially loved sharing what he had grown with family and friends. George was always reliable to give care and assistance to all his family and friends that were ill. He was loved by everyone that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean (Craig) Holland; his parents, Freeborn and Nora Holland; four brothers, Freeman, Cecil, Virgil and Rolland Holland; as well as his sister, Faye Gandy.
Left to cherish his memory include two brothers, Truman Holland and his wife Yvonne of Natchitoches and Wilmer Holland of Vowells Mill; two sisters, Bonnie Byrd and husband Huey of Hughes Spring, TX and Claudia Voigt of Provencal, LA; a special sister in law, Judy Penrod and her husband Charles of Vowells Mill; as well as many nieces, nephews and many friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include: Greg Howell, Gary Howell, Randy Yopp, Bryant Gandy, Ronald Holland, and Donnie Martin. Honorary pallbearer will be Dandy Foshee.
