Joseph Arthur DeLacerda, age 91, of Chopin, La., passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at his home. Arrangements are being handled by Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, La., where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Wednesday, May 28, 2008. A rosary will be held at 7:00 PM during the visitation. The funeral service will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10:00 AM Thursday, May 29, 2008, with Rev. Harold Imamshah officiating. Interment will be at Emmanuel Cemetery in Chopin, La.
Mr. Joseph served in the Army during World War II. He was stationed in Germany and France, and had a chance to visit the Vatican during his tour of duty. Joseph loved to fish, garden, and was a carpenter. He was full of life. He loved to joke and spend time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a family man first and foremost. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James DeLacerda and Lacy White DeLacerda.; one son, John Wayne DeLacerda; and one daughter, Joyce Annette Possoit.
He is survived by his wife Lucille DeLacerda; four grandchildren, Sandra Rachal and husband Chris of Lena, La., Jonathan DeLacerda of Lena, La., Brian Glenn of Provencal, La., and Joan Basco of Lena, La.; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Scallion of Campti, La.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Glenn, Justin Delacerda, Bradley LeBlanc, Jonathan Delacerda, Brandon Glenn, Devin Delacerda, and Gary Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Rachal, Sandra Rachal, Shelley LeBlanc, Erica Glenn, Kamryn Glenn, Triston Glenn, Draven Miller, Trinity Glenn, Brandon Doughty, Mason Delacerda, Belle Glenn, Izabella George, and Alana Collins.
