Funeral services for David E. Smith will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA with Father John O’Brien officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on October 28, 2013 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 PM during the visitation. David Smith, 73 years of age, passed away October 25, 2013. He was born November 9, 1939 to the late James Webster “Sho-Sho” Smith, Sr. and Florentine Spillman Smith in Cloutierville, LA. David was a lifelong member of the Blanchard-St Denis Funeral Home Staff. He began his funeral service career over 50 years ago, and served as the Assistant Manager of Blanchard St-Denis for over three decades. He received his funeral directors license in 1962. David is a native of Cloutierville, LA and graduated from Cloutierville High School with the class of 1958. He was an avid musician, playing the acoustic guitar and his personal favorite, the dobro. He loved to play and listen to bluegrass, and often times would travel to the local nursing homes and entertain the residents with his music. David enjoyed spending his leisure time fishing and taking time with his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Dottie Broadway Smith of Natchitoches, LA, one daughter, Tammy Smith of Natchitoches, LA; four grandchildren, Amber, Mason, Maxx, and Vallen; three great grandchildren, Devin, Laiyla, and Brielle; two sisters, Patsy Carter and husband Tommy and Marie Merrill and husband Tom; and two brothers, J.W. Smith Jr. and wife Faye and Roger Smith and wife Nancy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. W. Smith, Sr. and Florentine Smith. Pallbearers will be members of his family. David’s fellow musicians will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105 and The American Lung Association, 2325 Severn Avenue, Suite 8, Metairie, LA 70001.
