Elmer L. Poche, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Elmer Poche, Jr. will be held 10 am Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cloutierville, LA with Father Kenneth Obiekwe serving as celebrant. Interment, with military honors, will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 9 pm Monday, November 4, 2013 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 pm on Monday in the funeral home chapel. Mr. Poche, 86 years of age, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 in Alexandria, LA. He was born March 17, 1927 in Cloutierville, LA to the late Elmer Poche, Sr. and late Alice Brossette Poche. He served proudly in the United States Navy and ultimately retired after over 30 years of service, which included three wars, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He later worked for the City of Charleston, SC as a supervisor in the water treatment department. Elmer was an avid gardener and belonged to the Rose Garden Association. For many years, he assisted with Christmas tree charity sales in the Charleston Area. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters, Clara Poche Vercher and Pauline Poche Rachal; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera M. Poche; a brother, Lynn D. Poche; and brothers in law, Donald L. Vercher and Raymond Glenn Rachal. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include: Steve Vercher, David Rachal, Andy Poche and Charles Roge.
