Janice McDaniel Bryant passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with Leukemia. She was 79 years old and has lived in Natchitoches since the early 60’s.
Jan was born on May 24, 1934 in Greggton, TX to the late Mabel and William C. McDaniel. She grew up in Shreveport alongside her identical twin sister Clarice and younger brother Bill. She attended Cedar Grove Methodist and Caddo Heights Methodist Church and was a 1952 graduate of CE Byrd High School.
Caring for others was something that came naturally to her and she was proud of her nursing career that she began in the early 70’s. She worked for several local doctors over the years including Dr. Charlie Cook, Dr. Lynn Brouillette, and then later worked in the long term care unit of the Natchitoches Parish Hospital.
Jan enjoyed many wonderful hobbies. She was a talented seamstress and quilt maker and always had a project in the works. She was active in the Red Hat Society and loved her Red Hat friends as family. She enjoyed collecting dolls and was an active member of the North Louisiana Antique Doll and Toy Club. She loved to attend UFDC doll conventions all around the country, where she made friends at every event.
Jan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Eve Bryant and grandchildren, Isaac and his wife Alicia, and Nathan; son and daughter in law, Dennis and Betty Bryant, grandson Beau and his wife Jami; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Bruce Magnuson, granddaughter Laura Kate; and six adoring great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Clarice Pickett and her husband Glenn of Stonewall, LA; her brother, Bill McDaniel and his wife Janet of San Antonio, TX. Jan also had many close friends that she considered family, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 5 pm until 8 pm at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. A service to honor her life will be 10 am Friday, January 17, 2014 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Committal services will be 12:30 pm Friday at Centuries Memorial Cemetery, Shreveport, LA.
While family and friends are consumed in sadness and loss, we must not forget that Jan led a very full and happy life. We celebrate her kind and sweet spirit, thank the Lord for the time that we had with her, and take comfort in knowing that she is now in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (http://www.lls.org) or to the charity of your choice in her memory.
