Dwight E. Holland, born December 11, 1947, originally of Charlie, Texas, passed away in Natchitoches, Louisiana on January 22, 2014, after several Strokes, a seizure disorder, and cancer. He had been a resident at the Courtyard in Natchitoches where he received loving care under the supervision of Hospice, his cousin, Phyllis Jean Surrena and husband David Surrena, and her daughter, Christie Salim and husband Skeeter Salim.
Dwight was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, but grew up in Charlie, Texas and attended school in Petrolia, Texas. In his youth he was active in both 4H and FFA. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Charlie. He had a colorful work history serving at the State Hospital in Wichita Falls, but his real career was with Levi Strauss for 20 years. He started as a bundle boy and moved up to mechanic. However, his real vocation was the pleasure he enjoyed in the role of Santa Clause at the local schools that Levi Strauss adopted each year. He also loved being Santa for his friends and their family members and his Levi Strauss co-workers.
Dwight is survived by his brother, RG Holland, currently of Inverness, FL; two children, Angela Roxanne Holland of Petrolia, TX and Rocky Shawn Holland of Dale, TX; their mother, Debbie Knight; three grandsons, Eric and Jr Goode and Jacob Bean; his nieces, Julie Liscano of McKinney, TX, and Sonnet Holland of Reno, NV; and his nephews, Widgeon Holland and Hup Holland, both of Austin, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Midge and Dorothy Holland, as well as his older brother, Travis Holland. He will be dearly missed by his many friends, and his surviving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
