May 18, 1930 — March 10, 2014

Bernice “Burma” Simmons, 83 years of age, passed away March 11, 2014 in Natchitoches, LA. She was born May 18, 1930 to the late Frank Collins Clark and Edna Marie Gongre Clark in Coushatta, LA. She was the epitome of a lady. She was a faithful wife to her husband and a dedicated and loving mother to her children. She and Hubert where foster-parents to countless children over the years, always opening their home to anyone in need. Burma was a great cook and provider for her family. She cared for their needs, but was quick to correct them if necessary. She was honest to a fault, strong-willed, but always caring and compassionate. She had the loving and tender hands of a mother. Burma was a Christian, and dedicated many years of her life teaching Sunday School at the First United Methodist Church in Natchitoches, and later, serving as a faithful member of the Grand Ecore Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was deeply loved by her family, and will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Hubert "Buck" Simmons of Natchitoches, LA; her children, Bernice Longino and husband Charles of Natchitoches, LA and Debby Saville and husband Ray of Campti, LA; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Lawrence Longino of Leesville, LA and Victoria Shaye Simmons of Provencal, LA; two brothers, Frank Charles Clark and wife Ann and wife Evelyn of Shreveport, LA and Kenneth Clark and wife Evelyn of New Brunswick, ME; and one sister Eva Hamm of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Collins Clark and Edna Marie Gongre Clark; and fourteen brothers and sisters. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
