Funeral services for Hudolph Ross “Hugh” Lee will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA with Rev. Gerald Long officiating. Interment will follow at Lambertown Cemetery in Robeline, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on March 28, 2014 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA.  Hudolph Ross “Hugh” Lee passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the full age of 85 years. He was born in the town of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana on March 14, 1929 to the late Samuel Fritz Lee and Daisy Ross Lee. He graduated from Jennings High School in 1946 and subsequently served in the United States Army from 1947 to 1950. Afterward, he attended Northwestern College in Natchitoches for 2 years. On June 1, 1954, Hugh married June Marie Doolittle in the Doolittle home at Shamrock, Louisiana. Professionally, he was one of the most sought after directional drilling engineers in the oil industry and recognized as one of the pioneers of the trade in a career that extended over 35 years and spanned 5 continents.  As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, the greatest joys of his life were his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was affectionately called Granddaddy by his grandchildren, and “Gampy” by his great grandchildren. He had a great love for nature and was an avid sportsman and fisherman. He was also a master wood craftsman, and he enjoyed spending time in his workshop making beautiful furniture and treasured keepsakes for his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart, soul, and strength. Hugh was a great man of principle and character, and his love for the Lord and values have impacted the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Samuel Fritz Lee and Daisy Ross Lee; and one sister, the late Gloria Lee Solomon of Natchitoches.  He is survived by his wife, June Doolittle Lee of Natchitoches, LA; his son , Stephen Hugh Lee of Natchitoches, LA; his daughter, Sunny Lee Arceneaux and husband Dr. James Arceneaux of Natchitoches, LA; his grandchildren, Teresa Varner Freeman and husband Peyton Freeman of Rockwall, TX, David Lee Varner and wife Amanda Varner of Roanoke, TX, and Anna Varner Alexander and husband Travis Alexander III of Little Elm, TX; his great grandchildren, Ella Claire Freeman, Caleb and Abigail Varner, and Isabella, Ross, and Wyatt Alexander; his brother, Kenneth Ray Lee and wife Carolyn Lee of Baton Rouge; a host of nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-laws, Mary Jones of Robeline and Minnie Sirman of Benton, LA.  Those honored so serve as pallbearers will be David Varner, Peyton Freeman, Trey Alexander, Sherman Doolittle, Mark Doolittle, Roger Doolittle, Floyd Eugene Doolittle, and Dr. James Arceneaux.  Honorary Pallbearers will be S. G. Martin, Roy "Sonny" Wren, Matthew Doolittle, Wayne Doolittle, Ronald Nelson, and Norman Hicks.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Louisiana Baptist’s Children’s Home or the Lambertown Cemetery.
